CCJ Co-Director Naomi Klein is looking for an experienced graduate student researcher to assist with various writing and teaching projects, beginning immediately.
The researcher will be responsible for primary research and fact checking for articles, lectures, papers, and book projects. They will work directly with Professor Klein and with staff at the UBC Centre for Climate Justice.
The ideal researcher will possess excellent investigative skills and be meticulously attentive to accuracy, detail, and organization. They will already follow politics/current events closely and have a strong interest and grounding in climate justice literature. Knowledge of the intersections of militarism, colonialism and climate are an asset.
This position is open only to current graduate students at the UBC Vancouver campus.
Responsibilities will include:
- Targeted fact finding, investigative research, and news synthesis
- Preparation of visual presentations, including image research and slide design
- Detailed fact-checking of all projects, including building and maintaining relationships with experts to consult on factual questions
- Producing longer term, in-depth research reports and literature reviews
- Maintaining extensive and searchable electronic research files
Qualifications:
The researcher must have a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience, including teaching experience, and be a registered UBC student. Strong writing and investigative research skills are required, including the ability to conduct phone interviews, search databases, use the library system and access hard to find documents. Professional experience with course design, book research, journalistic research and fact-checking are assets.
The researcher will have a proven commitment to the highest standards of accuracy, and must be comfortable interpreting, summarizing, and drawing on social and physical science research. The position also requires excellent time management skills, professionalism, and the ability to handle high-stress situations. Time sensitive deadlines require the ability to work flexible hours and to respond rapidly to requests.

Wages and hours:
This position will begin in Summer 2024 with an hourly wage of $32 at 15 hours/week, with the intention of transitioning to a UBC Vancouver Work Learn position at a comparable rate in Fall 2024 at 10 hours/week.
