Dr Audra Simpson\, Professor at Columbia University\, will gi ve a lecture examining the invocation of trauma in the biographical account s of well-known frauds to analyze both the content of their story of self-m aking and its imbrications with race and gender. She will explore how these are features of a settler colonial society that no longer only claims land s\, but also claims selves\, and historical experiences\, as their own.

Dr. Audra Simpson is a political anthropologist whose work i
s focused on contextualizing the force and consequences of governance throu
gh time\, space and bodies. Her research and writing is rooted within Indig
enous polities in the US and Canada and crosses the fields of anthropology\
, Indigenous Studies\, American and Canadian Studies\, gender and sexuality
studies as well as politics. Her recent research is a genealogy of affecti
ve governance and extraction across the US and Canada.
